Revisiting The Catalysts Of Change
Seems like an eternity has past since I first launched this Poll on the catalysts that drive human action. As I mentioned back then, one of our Lessons from History was the presence of catalysts that drove actions that ultimately shaped our future. The major catalysts of the second revolution were astounding levels of innovation, World War One, The Great Depression, World War Two, and the eventual democratization of innovation. The question I asked in the poll was: What catalysts force stakeholder actions that ultimately shape our emerging future?
The impetus behind that poll was the growing need for human action to steer a very uncertain, rapidly changing future in a positive direction. Now, many are viewing the global pandemic as the biggest global crisis since World War Two. In light of that, the significance of the poll may seem more relevant — versus what may have seemed to some as a future-oriented exercise. Our inability or unwillingness to see beyond short term horizons allows the future to shape us, versus the other way around.
Since that poll almost eighteen months ago, so much has changed. The world feels very different, more so than it has since the post-war era established our modern society. Given all that has changed, and Considering the Lessons of history, I thought it would be interesting to run that poll again. How have the events of the past 8 month changed our perspective — if at all? I’ve modified the poll slightly to reflect some of that change, and kept the other category to get your thoughts.
